2023 Perth Hills Wine Show results

Lawnbrook Estate took out Wine of Show at the 24th Labelmakers Perth Hills Wine Show, held last Friday evening.  This annual event celebrates local wine producers from across the region.

The winery’s 2023 Vermentino was the highest-scoring wine of the show and also earned them Best White Wine.

Vigneron Bruce Wilson, said this was a variety he’s wanted to create a wine from for a long time and was thrilled to have been able to secure fruit from the region this year.

About 95 guests attended the show and this year’s inductee as Life Member of the Perth Hills Vignerons Association was Patrick Bertola (previously of Lion Mill Vineyard).

There were 82 entries across eight classes in 2023, with 4 gold, 15 silver and 46 bronze medals awarded.

This year’s judges were Cath Oates of Oates Edge Wines (Chief Judge); Megs Kopke, founder and owner of Morevino and Paul Edwards, wine writer for The West Australian.

Chief judge Cath Oates said the region is going from strength to strength and producing some excellent alternative varieties.

“The judging was really exciting and it was great to see a good spread of results across the entries” she said.
